Mojo Monday 500 Contest and Farewell

My dear Mojo Monday friends,

It is with bittersweet emotion I type these words to announce that this week will be our final Mojo Monday challenge. I have loved bringing you these 500 weekly inspirational sketches over the last close to 10 years. It's been an incredible ride to see so many amazingly unique cards from the same sketch, to get to know you through your blog posts, to watch your grow as artists, and to see so many cards in publications inspired by these sketches. These things have made my heart swell with joy. Thank you so much for your participation and for letting me do what I've felt called to do... inspire. One of the things I love most about sketches is that they give the freedom to discover your own style and uniqueness without worrying about creating a balanced layout as well. They're the jumping off point for a new creative  journey and I hope you have found joy in creating from them.

And while I have loved these challenges for so many big and small reasons, the landscape of my life has dramatically shifted over the course of these 9.75 years. As a full-time company owner and Mama to two curious, incredibly intelligent, and busy 5 year olds, I'm finding myself heartsick by the precious little moments that are slipping through my fingers while I spend time prepping for this challenge each week. Echoes of "WHEN will you be done, Mama?" haunt me and I find myself wanting to spend less time stamping, commenting and creating new sketches and more time with my boys. So here's to new adventures, to joyful creating, and to precious times. I'll still be blogging over at Poetic Artistry and running Verve, so come see me there!

Much love,
- Julee

PS. I'd love to read YOUR story of what Mojo has meant to you - feel free to add it to your blog post if you play along or in the comments below.

It's also time for one last contest!  Since this is our final challenge. and it's a busy time of year I thought we'd extend the deadline to two weeks, so everyone can have a chance to play.

How to play: Upload a creation using this week's sketch to your online blog or gallery. Then leave a direct link to your project in the InLinkz widget at the bottom of this post. If you upload to online galleries, please tag them with MOJO500. Our challenge is open to everyone, Verve stamps are NOT required to participate, and you can enter as many times as you want. If you don't have a particular shape, feel free to substitute.

The Prizes: We'll have one winner for every 50 entries! Winners will receive the Verve Stamps set of their choice. You can play as often as you like, and the more entries the more winners!

Deadline: The InLinkz entry widget will close at 8PM MT {Click here for time conversion} on Sunday, June 18; so all entries need to be in before then to be eligible for our prize drawing. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.

I'd like to give a ginormous THANK YOU to the incredible Mojo Makers design team! These incredible artists never cease to amaze me with their creations, faithfully providing samples week after week, lately with very little advance notice on the sketch! And the deepest heartfelt thanks to Teresa Kline, who has been typing up many of the blog posts for the past 5+ years since the twins were born. I could not have done it without her. Big puffy heart hugs!

For this last challenge, I thought I'd add each DT member's card to the post, like we did in the past. I hope you will stop by and give a shout out to each of these amazing crafters.

  1. Oh Julee, how very sad to see this awesome, fabulous challenge ending, but I totally understand the reason why.
Time with your sweet and beautiful little boys is precious, there is absolutely no better reason to want to dedicate and enjoy more time with them, kids grow up way to fast, they don't wait for us and one day, we turn around and they are all grown up and doing their own thing.
I've only been blogging for a little over 2 years but I want to say that it's been a pleasure and loads of fun to participate in your challenges, your sketches have helped me tremendously in my quest to learn how to lay out my cards and, I've even won twice!!
So thank you, thank you for sharing your wonderful sketches with us every week for 10 years, I wish you the best, I will most definitely keep going to your blog for inspiration and to Verve Stamps to see what awesome new sets you have in the store.
    Big Hugs,
    Maria Rodriguez.

  2. Wishing you the best of luck Julee, I have played along sometimes throughout the weeks, but not always, but go back into the archives when in need of a jumping off point. Thanks for having this great challenge and great sketches. Wishing you much happiness in your future. I hope you will keep the sketches for future reference somewhere.

  3. So sad you stop the challenge. When I began making Cards Moyo Monday helped me with the sketch to build up a card.
I wish you and your team the very best!

  5. I didn't post cards very much, but Mojo Monday was ALWAYS the first site I went to on Monday mornings. I love seeing the interpretations of the sketches, and the inspiration helped more than I can ever say.

I am hoping that the blog will stay up so that when the inspiration mojo just isn't coming forward, there will still be a place to give a shimmer of help.

Best of luck ... I know what it's like to be a mother of twin boys ... but they do grow up!

  6. Bittersweet indeed! Julee, while your weekly sketches and encouraging comments will be missed, I know the Lord will bless you for your decision to give more attention to your family. The time does go by so very quickly and you won't regret your decision.

Thank you for the lovely inspiration for so many years. I've greatly enjoyed participating in the challenges from time to time as the seasons of mothering have allowed. I'm thankful to have stumbled across Mojo Monday Sketches several years ago, since that is how I found out about Verve stamps. I love my collection of Scripture stamps and I am thankful you will still be running Verve and your personal blog.

    God bless!

  9. Oh I'm so sad to see the end of this wonderful challenge blog. However I totally understand the reasons behind it. Time goes so fast just look we are half way through another year! Children grow so quickly and need their parents guiding hands with them. Enjoy your time with them and who knows when they are older you may wish to come back and begin with 501. With much love.

  10. WOW! Mojo Monday 500! That's awesome, I can image how bittersweet this post is for you. Thank you for all the inspiring sketches and beautiful cards that you've shared💚

  11. Wow it has been quite the run! Mojo Monday was the very first challenge I ever entered waaaay back when! Your design team members have always been fabulous and your own work is amazing! Thanks for all the inspiration!

  12. First and Foremost, What a milestone! Ten Years is amazing! It's bittersweet for sure, as Mojo Monday was the very first challenge blog that I ever entered when I began card making, and Verve stamps were my very first online company to buy from. I still say that Verve stamps are some of the best quality stamps I own, and I will never part with any of the many sets I own. As a parent of a 24 year old son soon to be married, you are definitely making the right decision for you and your family. Life is too short, and their will be many milestones the boys will be making along the way that you certainly don't won't want to miss! Thanks for everything Julee! You are a true talent inside and out!

  13. Julee, life as a mother has many challenges but such great rewards. You are making the right choice to put your boys first. Since reading about your health challenges this past year, you and your family have been in my prayers and will continue to be. You are a blessing in what you do with your designs and your website/blog. I love your designs from the Mojo Monday challenges and haven't been able to consistently participate but when I have I love seeing what everyone comes up with. I have saved many of your sketches and keep them in a binder which I refer back to when making cards and I need an idea. I love your stamps with their inspiration and scriptures. They are so versatile for different styles. Thanks for all you do, for your creativity and the joy you bring to the crafting community as well as I am sure to those you share life with.
May God continue to bless and keep you and your family!!

  14. You've given me so much inspiration! Whenever I'm stuck for an idea I go grab a sketch. I have only shared one or two here on your challenge, but I've shared dozens with my friends and family. I hope the archive will remain available. Have you thought of putting them on a data disc and selling the collection now that you've turned a page? It would be cool to have a way to pull them all up at once. Anyway, go enjoy your boys!! And thanks.

  15. I find myself wanting to cry and rejoice all at the same time. I have loved Mojo Monday, and participated often over the past 5+ years. Even after the sketch challenge runs out, I still pull old sketches and create with them because they continue to inspire me. I am so happy for you to be able to spend time with your littles. My oldest will be leaving elementary school behind this month. It's bittersweet and I counted back the years that he was educated at this level...7 years! Time flies. Take time to enjoy what matters. *Hugs*

  16. I have been saving and printing out your sketch on Mojo Monday for years and have saved them in a folder for a jump start when I needed it. So thank you for all the wonderful inspiration. You are doing the right thing as God gives us our children to care for on this earth till we all return to Him. I have raised 4 children and 4 of my 7 grandchildren and the rewards are immeasurable. God bless you in all you do in your life (my daughter had two sets of twins - now 16 and 19) and I will be visiting over at Verve!! Big Hugs - you are very special

  17. Your challenge was the first one I ever did and I have to say in generated a passion for creating my own cards. It truly inspired me and I hate to see it go. But I understand the need to spend more time with the family. May God bless you on your future endeavors, and when you find yourself retired and looking for a fulfilling hobby, we will be happy to see you again.

  19. Fabulous inspiration from the design team (as always!). I discovered Mojo Monday and Verve within the past couple of years. Since sketches are my favorite inspiration I have tried to participate weekly. I absolutely agree that Family comes first. Mojo Monday will certainly be missed, Julee!

  20. Julee, I'm so sad to see Mojo Monday come to an end, but you have given us 10 wonderful years of sketches and I'm so appreciative of the time and talent you contributed to the crafting community. Of course family comes first and your decision is without question a wise one. But my Monday's will not be the same without my weekly dose of inspiration from you and the incredibly talented design team.

All the best to you and a heartfelt thanks.

  22. MOJO 500 Congrats to the 500. I am thrilled for you to be able to spend time with your littles- They grow so fast, you will not regret your decision. Your challenges have been so inspiring. I'm glad there are still verve stamps to purchase and make. I look forward to reading your new adventures on your blog. Many blessings to you Julee. Thanks for all you have done and shared.

  23. That’s the best part of LIFE, we take steps forward to new worlds and like Albert Einstein said: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” Mojo Monday was my weekly kick start for the past year. Thank you Julee for these great challenges and good luck in you new adventures.

  25. Wow! You have a ton on your plate. I'm surprised you've been able to continue it through 500 sketches. Thank you for all the inspiration over the past 9-1/2 years. While I haven't ever participated in a challenge, I have used countless sketches of yours and I appreciate all the hard work you put into running this site. I completely get it and I hope you enjoy the bit of extra time with your boys. :)

  28. Julee, a huge thank you to you and to your design team for the inspiration and starting point you have provided over the years. As a challenge junkie, I especially appreciated the possibility of multiple entries! All the best to you as you enjoy your family - your decision is certainly the right one. By the way, my hubby and his twin brother will celebrate birthday #85 later this week!

  29. Although I'm sad to see the end of the challenge, you are doing the right thing. Our children our only young once, the time goes so quickly and it is right that they should be your focus now - enjoy them, and thank you for all the inspiration!

  30. You've been a wonderful Christian inspiration to us over the years and I wish you all the blessings you deserve as you "let go" of the Mojo challenge! Enjoy those little ones while you can!

  31. While I don't play with you often (I'm really bad with sketches...), I follow you weekly. Mojo Monday was one of the first challenges I ever played with a couple years ago, and one of my top three most satisfying and memorable wins was with you guys... I felt doubly proud and honored as you guys have been such a talented group through the years. Best of luck, Julee! Thanks for the inspiration through the years!

  32. Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into this blog. I have thoroughly enjoyed using these sketches, and I hope to continue using the past sketches for years to come. Best of luck to you!

  33. Sad to see you be leaving but so understand you want to spend more time with your young son's they are growing up so fast and one day hopefully you will have more time and perhaps be back doing the Monday Mojo again. Congrats for making 500 today ! My friend Sandra over at Cotswold Crafter have sometimes used your sketches as inspiration for us to make a card to show on her blog. They have been very helpful so thank you for all the work you have done over the years. Best of luck xx

  34. Hello Julee, my Monday's will never be the same, I will be missing these sketches a lot. It was always fun to play. I wish you well and will stop by Verve Stamps for sure. I totally understand about the twins as a grandmother of two boys of nearly 2. I am glad i can help out my DD. Thanks for all the fun we had and thanks to all the designers who made so much inspiration!

  35. I am so sorry to see Mojo Monday end! This blog and these sketches are a staple of my card making. I have a binder of every sketch and refer to them often when I have card maker's block! Best wishes for your next adventure! I am on the other end of the spectrum, with my youngest starting college in the fall. I am retiring from homeschooling and wonder what is next for me?! I will keep tabs on you via FB and your other blog, and Verve, of course!

  36. Hi Julee. Wow I am shocked and sad to read the news. I always hope to be on your design team one day. It was one of my dreams. Love the fantastic sketches down through the years. I understand how life changes requiring first priority. I will miss this site and gallery of inspiration. Thanks for the ride and many blessings to you. Enjoy your family. Again Thanks so much. Huggies!!!

  37. You have your priorities straight, Julee--the boys will never be young again! I haven't played regularly, but this sketch looks like something I can use & I'd love to join in for the last challenge. You & the DT are all very talented & inspiring--thank you!

  38. I am saddened by this announcement...but only for selfish reasons. You ARE making the right decision. Our little ones grow up so fast. Mine are almost 21 and 17 and I find myself longing for them to be little again, so I can steal kisses and hugs without hearing a "MOOOOMMMMMM!!" To bathe them, dress them, feed them, sing to them, and basically have them "need" me. So enjoy those moments while they are here. Best wishes to you and your family!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I understand completely but I am so sad. I ahope you will leave the blog up with all the archived sketches. You are an amazing sketch artist and I turn to your sketches often when I am needing inspiration. I too had 2 little boys and walked away from a career when they were little. I could not bear to be away from them and miss the precious moments of discovery and snuggles. They are now in their mid-30's and the most amazing fathers. I have no regrets and I know you will not either. Best of luck always.

  40. Thanks for the years of inspiration. I am glad that you are making the decision for family even if it means we will have to get inspiration somewhere else. Blessings Julee.

  41. Thank you, Julee, for all you have done to inspire so many of us in Blogland and give us a jumping off point with your stunning sketches to make our own creations. I haven't played in a while because I don't often do multi-layers, but in my early years of blogging I was here often as your sketches and awesome DT creations provided me with much-needed inspiration.

I applaud your decision to make the most of this precious time with your twin sons. As the mother of a son and grandmother to twin grandsons, I know all too well how they grow up in the blink of an eye. The really incredible thing about this hobby and this remarkable community is that you will be welcomed back with open arms in the few years you will need to grow those boys to fine young men!! Blessings to you! Hugs, Darnell

  42. Good luck, Julee. I am late to the whole sketch and challenge thingy - but I have enjoyed playing along. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. First and foremost, I am so proud of you for recognizing how precious this time is with your littles and making the hard decision to re-prioritze your time. Even though that means letting Mojo Monday go. I'm sure it wasn't any easy choice, but you won't regret it.

Thank you for starting and running the mojo challenge. These challenges gave me such confidence in my card making over the years. Every time I use one of your sketches my card turns out great! The past couple of years I haven't had time to finish many challenges on time, but I often print them out and use them later. You are an inspiration and we are all better cardmakers because of you.

{hug} your babies and enjoy this time. It really does go too fast. Before you know they will be grown.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Although I haven't very often, I always check the challenges and admire your DT projects! I can understand completely why you need to pull back, because your little ones will never be the same again and you meed to enjoy all those important moments. Best to you and your family, and thanks for so many challenges!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Can't argue with that! Enjoy every precious moment with those two sweet boys!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you so much for your continual inspiration in the world of blogging. I think your idea of how to spend time with your boys is a wise move and one I am sure you and they will cherish for years to come. I wished I had played more and my creativity would stretch to using sketches more!! Sending love xx

  47. I just wanted you to know that even though I have never submitted a photo of a card using your sketches, I have always enjoyed reading your emails. Thanks!

  48. Thank you for all your hard work providing sketches and inspiration for so many years. Wishing you and all those involved with Mojo Monday challenges every success and happiness.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have taken Mojo Monday for granted and I apologize! When I need inspiration to get a card started, 95% of the time I jump on your site and scroll the sketches and immediately, I have the inspiration I needed to make the card! I can't imagine how you've designed 500 different sketches!! Wow! What an amazing talent!! Your family needs you and that is the most important job in the world! I hope your site will remain so I can jump over and get inspiration from the 500 previous designs!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the long hours and love you have poured into this site!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sorry to hear such great inspiration is coming to an end Julee - I've always enjoyed joining in when I can. I often turn to your site for inspiration. Thanks for all the sketches over the years - I can really appreciate the amount of time and effort it must take to run such a huge challenge on a weekly basis!

  51. Oh, my! The sketch challenge will be dearly missed! I haven't been able to play often but when I do it's been such a joy to use your sketches! One of the easiest cards I created this year was with a mojo sketch. I remember reading one of your posts five years ago that you had twins and I wondered how you would do it all but you DID!!! You are so right to put the sketch away for now! It doesn't feel like it when the kids are young but the time really does go by FAST! These little moments will only be a memory soon. Mine are 20 and 17 now and I find myself in awe that the little moments are finished, where did the time go??? Sniff, sniff. I am so glad that you will still have the store open. I am always drawn to your cards when I come across them at the Splitcoast gallery. Hugs and MANY Blessings as you enter a new phase!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I haven't entered your challenges, but have downloaded each sketch and used many to make my cards, perhaps weeks or even years after it is blogged by you, so I am going to miss the wonderful and creative designs that you have so kindly used your time for, BUT your little ones MUST come first and I see that, but will still miss the wonderful layouts. I hope you will keep the blog open so that we can pop in for a design we haven't got and will get our mojo going again. Thank you and God Bless.

  57. Hi Julee,
While it is really sad to hear that Mojo Monday Sketches will be coming to an end (they've been my favorite challenge to draw inspiration from, bar none), I do understand why you would want to invest more time in being with your kids. You can never invest too much time there!
I have many fond memories of creating stuff using your sketch. Back when I was living in Quebec City, I would often get home after work and actually sit down to create Something based on your weekly sketch... before starting dinner and eating Something! A girl has to have her priorities in order. ;P
I have a sheet of back sketches that I hadn't used yet on my desk that I keep working off of whenever I have the chance so you can bet that I'll keep on catching up on past sketches.
Thanks for all of the hours you've invested in creating your awesome sketches and for sharing your endless creativity.
Wishing you only the very best for the times to come,
    Cindy

  61. Dear Julee,

I've been one of your many followers for all of these years. While I haven't participated weekly with a card, there was rarely a week that I at the very least didn't check in to see what you, your team and the rest of the participants were creating. It is the layout that I have the most difficulty with when making a card. I love combining the stamps, papers, color medium, embellishments. But when it comes to putting them all together on a card, I always found that the most challenging aspect of card making. Every Monday Julee and a fresh and often VERY challenging layout. I have looked forward to each Monday, whether or not I actually participated in making a card, to Julee and her team's creative layout challenges and seeing how all of the participants used that layout in their own creative way.

I understand life changes full well. I wish you all the best in the future.
    Jennifer

  62. I've enjoyed your sketches for years and plan to check back on them for inspiration.
As a mom of a college student, I think you've made a good choice. There will come a time (sooner than you want) when hanging with Mom won't appeal so much to them anymore, and the Internet will still be there if you choose to return. In the meantime, enjoy your kids. Best wishes.

  63. Dear Julee,so sorry to hear of the end of Mojo Monday. It was only towards the end of last year that I have been able to join in, but I have followed along for many years. Enjoy this time with your sons, every single minute of it. It goes by so incredibly fast, we can't slow it down or get it back. Before you know it they will be in college, like my son. I am still wondering how I got here so fast! Blessings to you and your family, I'm sure we'll still see your lovely creations and be inspired by them as well.

I pray that, sad as it is, for you and all of us to these come to an end, you will be encouraged in knowing that you are doing what is best for you and your family at this time and God will bless you for it. All the best.

  76. I congratulate you on a tough life choice. I think you made the right one. You and the design team provided an incredible service to the card making community with your creative jumpstarts. I will miss Mojo Monday but I wish you and your family the very best and will check in on Verve and your own blog, too.

  77. Thank you, Julee, for so many wonderful sketches and for hosting this challenge with so much inspiration from your DT, past and present. I have gradually moved away from making layered cards, but I'm happy to say I managed to create (and link up) one more, as a tribute to you and your challenge blog.
